Don't miss out on the family and pet-friendly open streets event happening this Saturday, September 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Join City officials as they kickoff the event at 10 a.m. at the Walter Pyramid, Pyramid Hub at 1250 M. ICYMI: This Tuesday, September 13, the Long Beach City Council voted to adopt the City of Long Beach’s $3.2 billion budget for Fiscal Year (FY) 2023. Long Beach is a full-service city and prides itself on providing a variety of resources and services to the community, including the provision and improvement of affordable housing; support for economic development and business assistance; the overall continuum of public safety and emergency medical response; a comprehensive homelessness response; maintenance of safe, clean and accessible parks and facilities; and infrastructure and livability improvements. Thank you to everyone who participated in our community meetings and/or provided feedback. It is also Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month from September 15 - October 15. We are extremely grateful and proud of the history and contributions of all our Latinx communities. Long Beach City Council Adopts Fiscal Year 2023 Budget On Tuesday, September 13, the Long Beach City Council voted to adopt the City of Long Beach’s $3.2 billion budget for Fiscal Year (FY) 2023. The Adopted FY 23 Budget continues the prioritization of significant pandemic recovery support for residents and business; implements new forward-thinking initiatives that promote safety, health and quality of life; and makes strong investments in the City’s infrastructure. Read more Long Beach Public Library Celebrates Hispanic and Latinx Culture with 'Vida Latina' Program Series Our Long Beach Public Library will host its fourth annual Vida Latina, a series of events in celebration of Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month, taking place Sept. 10 through Nov. 2, 2022, at various LBPL locations. This year’s celebration will present a mix of in-person and virtual activities for adults, teens and kids, including annual favorites such as Lotería and Cuentos y Cantos Storytime and exciting new events like the Resistencia Poetry Club, Día de Muertos and Mercadito Literario, a literary fair fun for the whole family, on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2022. Haga clic aquí City to Begin Offering Bivalent COVID-19 Boosters Our Department of Health and Human Services started offering the bivalent Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 boosters. These updated boosters will replace previous boosters and offer increased protection against omicron variant. Read more City of Long Beach Expands Eligibility for Monkeypox Vaccine to Additional Groups Our Department of Health and Human Services expanded eligibility for the MPX vaccine. This decision is in alignment with Los Angeles County and in effort to provide equitable distribution and increase access of the MPX vaccine to include populations who may be at future risk of exposure. Read more City of Long Beach Launches Monkeypox (MPX) Data Dashboard on City’s MPX Website Our Department of Health and Human Services launched a new MPX dashboard to provide the public with information on MPX cases and vaccinations in the City. The new dashboard, available as a button feature on the Health Department’s MPX website, will offer a user-friendly experience and real-time access to increased data transparency. Click here Our Department of Health and Human Services' Office of Youth Development, in partnership with The Nonprofit Partnership, awarded the first disbursements of Measure US funded grants, a total of $318,955 in mini-grants and mid-size grants, to support over 70 local groups and organizations providing summer programs and fostering pathways of care and connection for children and young adults between the ages of 8 and 24 in Long Beach. Click here Long Beach Animal Care Services Offers Safety and Prevention Reminders Regarding Coyotes This is the time of year when coyote pups become more visible in the community because they are growing up and leaving their dens more frequently. Because they do not require open space to survive, coyotes have successfully adapted to living in urban and suburban neighborhoods and can be seen at any time of day, although they are most active at dusk, dawn and at night. Due to this, Long Beach Animal Care Services is reminding residents of the following important safeguards to protect pets and property against coyotes and other wild or unwanted animals. Read more City Seeks Community Input on Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan The City of Long Beach Department of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Communications is inviting residents to participate in the review of the City’s Draft Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan. Residents can review the draft plan and provide comments online or in-person at all Long Beach Public Library locations, now through Oct. 16, 2022. Read more Homeless Court Helps People Experiencing Homelessness, Breaking Down Barriers To Housing And Employment Long Beach’s Homeless Court was started last year as a result of discussions between LA County Supervisor Janice Hahn and Long Beach City Prosecutor Doug Haubert, with the dual goals of resolving legal barriers for participants already engaged in services and connecting people experiencing homelessness to services. Homeless Court started as a pilot project to help people receive critical services and stay connected. Homeless Court happens at the City's Multi-Service Center, an environment that can be less intimidated than a traditional courtroom. Read how this program is helping with active cases, old warrants, and even with expungements in certain cases to help people experiencing homelessness get back on their feet.
