Have fun in Long Beach all summer long by exploring the variety of events and activities listed in our summer calendar. We have compiled a list of more than 1,000 events happening throughout the city. Our Long Beach Parks, Recreation & Marine department is also offering affordable summer programming for the entire family. As we get closer to the Fourth of July holiday we encourage residents and visitors to please celebrate safely. Fireworks are illegal in Long Beach and can cost you up to $20,000 in fines. We have details below on how to report illegal fireworks. Scroll down to get more information on resources, job openings, events and more. It’s a Summer of Endless Fun with Long Beach’s New Online Summer Activities Calendar We are offering a variety of summer family-friendly programs, activities and events for residents of all ages to enjoy. Click here City of Long Beach Encourages Residents and Visitors to Celebrate Safely This Independence Day The City of Long Beach is encouraging residents and visitors to celebrate safely this Fourth of July to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the community. The City has launched its annual Celebrate Safely campaign to showcase the dangers of fireworks activity and encourage alternative fun, family-friendly ways to celebrate on Independence Day and all summer long. All personal fireworks, including sparklers and those labeled “safe and sane,” are prohibited within Long Beach city limits. Click here Long Beach Animal Care Services Invites Community to Participate in Foster the 4th Ahead of Independence Day Long Beach Animal Care Services invites the community to participate in Foster the 4th, an initiative focused on providing safe homes for shelter animals during the Fourth of July holiday period. Every Independence Day, we experience a surge in incoming lost pets who run away from home due to the fear of fireworks. Foster the 4th kicks off Sunday, June 23, with a special adoption and fostering event where attendees will receive information and resources, meet the adoptable animals available for fostering, and learn ways to prevent shelter overcrowding. The kickoff event will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. at our Animal Care Services shelter, 7700 E. Spring St., Long Beach, CA 90815. People can email PetFoster@longbeach.gov to schedule an appointment. Tuesday, June 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Click here     Long Beach Animal Care Services Hosting Weekly Low-Cost Vaccine Clinics The City of Long Beach’s Long Beach Animal Care Services is partnering with Community Animal Medicine Project to host weekly low-cost vaccine clinics to provide essential vaccinations and basic wellness services for pets at an affordable price. The partnership aims to ensure all pets in the community are receiving the necessary medical treatments to prevent and protect against diseases. Increasing access to weekly vaccination clinics is part of LBACS’s Compassion Saves model to improve and enhance the quality of life for all pets in the community. Click here Long Beach to Celebrate Grand Reopening of El Dorado Park West Duck Pond You are invited to join us in celebrating the grand reopening of the El Dorado Duck Pond. The special event will include remarks by Mayor Rex Richardson, Fourth District Councilman Daryl Supernaw, and the Departments of Parks, Recreation and Marine and Public Works, as well as a ceremonial ribbon cutting and public access to the revitalized duck pond and surrounding recreational area. The celebration will be held at noon on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at El Dorado Park West (2400 N. Studebaker Road). Click here Long Beach Offering Summer Adaptive Youth and Adult Recreation Programs Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine is offering new sessions of the ARISE Adaptive program for middle and high school youth and adult participants with disabilities to enhance their social, cognitive and physical needs while encouraging them to express themselves and get creative. Programs will run now through Friday, August 23, 2024. Click here Long Beach’s Water Playgrounds is Now Open at Alamitos and Bay Shore Beaches The popular inflatable “Wibit” aquatic playgrounds at Alamitos Beach and Bay Shore Avenue are now open, offering residents and visitors of these Long Beach beaches free, family-friendly fun and active water play all summer long through Monday, Sept. 2. Click here City of Long Beach Seeks Community Vote to Select Final Concepts for Creative Economy Grants’ Public Mural Program The City of Long Beach opened the public voting period to select the final concepts for nine murals that will be placed in parks and public facilities for its Public Mural Program, part of the City's Creative Economy Grants Program that is funded by the Long Beach Recovery Act and administered by the Arts Council for Long Beach. A total of 27 artists and their concepts were selected as finalists, with three finalists identified for each of the nine mural sites. Now through Monday, July 8, 2024, community members are invited to vote for the concept they’d like to see implemented at each mural location. Vote here! City of Long Beach Announces ClimateLB Youth Climate Action Fund Microgrant Program The City of Long Beach is launching the ClimateLB Youth Climate Action Fund Microgrant Program (Program) to support youth ages 15-24 in designing, producing and overseeing urgent climate solutions that further the City’s climate action goals. The Program will aid in fulfilling the City’s 10-year community investment plan, the West Side Promise, and also aligns with the goals of the Long Beach Climate Action Plan, Strategic Plan for Youth and Emerging Adults and Racial Equity and Reconciliation Plan. Learn more City of Long Beach Announces Early Childhood Development Workshop Series for Families and Caregivers The City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services (Health Department), in partnership with the Long Beach Public Library, has launched another round of the Parent Informational Workshop series. The workshops will offer parents and caregivers of children ages 0 to 5 years old an opportunity to learn about various topics, including speech and language development, special education and early start intervention. This initiative aims to ensure Long Beach families experiencing developmental concerns about their child are connected to services in a timely manner. Learn more Our Health Department's Office of Youth Development, in partnership with The Nonprofit Partnership, Invest in Youth Coalition anchored by Khmer Girls in Action, and California State University of Long Beach Department of Geography, will award $400,000 to nine organizations selected by youth as part of the second year of the citywide youth participatory budgeting project. A total of 602 youth ages 13 to 26 who live, work and/or play in Long Beach voted on which projects to fund this summer. Our Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services encourages everyone to do their part to control mosquitoes. City Health Officer Dr. Anissa Davis advises that residents should follow the precautions described below to protect themselves from mosquitoes and the diseases they may carry. Click below for tips. Learn more City of Long Beach Celebrates Groundbreaking for MacArthur Park Rehabilitation Project The City of Long Beach recently celebrated a milestone in the MacArthur Park Rehabilitation Project with a ceremonial groundbreaking and remarks by City and community leaders. The project, located at MacArthur Park in central Long Beach, entails significant renovations to the sports courts, a versatile multi-purpose green space, picnic areas, new signature playground, and other park enhancements. Click here City of Long Beach Launches Elevate ‘28 Website The City of Long Beach Public Works Department has launched the highly anticipated Elevate ’28 website, a platform designed to provide regular updates on the City’s transformative infrastructure initiatives across over 180 unique projects. The Elevate ’28 Infrastructure Investment Plan, approved as part of the City’s Fiscal Year 2024 Budget, enhances the City’s existing five-year infrastructure plan to revitalize the City’s infrastructure; prepares Long Beach to be a showcase for the world during the 2028 Olympics; and continues to improve and enhance City parks, major corridors and visitor-serving areas. Click here City Celebrates Opening of New Affordable Housing Community We recently celebrated the grand opening of 26 Point 2, a new 77-unit affordable housing development for low-income households that are experiencing homelessness. The development, by Excelerate Housing Group and their partner Harbor Interfaith Services, is comprised of studio units and residents will have access to a multi-purpose room with a kitchen and lounge, outdoor courtyard and barbecue areas as well as onsite social services. Click here City Launches Application Period for Second Cohort of Long Beach Public Service Corps Program The City of Long Beach has launched the application period for 2024-2025 Long Beach Public Service Corps program which provides college students interested in pursuing careers in local government, nonprofit management and public service an opportunity to engage in paid fellowship opportunities across City departments, allowing participants to gain practical experience and develop the skills necessary for various in-demand occupations. At no cost to the business, Pacific Gateway trains youth workers and pays their wages and workers compensation.
