Long Beach is served by the Blue Line, and late last night a passenger was shot while getting off at the Blue Line's Washington Station. The passenger who was shot died instantly.

LB is a normal nighttime pier, but once you get to the land side, there are a few places that look unsafe. It is a shame because the streets are beautifully maintained.

Even in Torrance, I would not recommend the areas with zip codes 90501 and 90502. 90501 and 90502 have some safe places, but not many.
If you are considering Torrance, Palos Verdes is better. The downside is that it's far from the freeway, though.

Huntington Beach is not bad, but if LB is your workplace, Irvine is fine.
Costa Mesa is also good if you don't mind the school district for your kids, but not many Japanese.

I used to live in Long Beach with my family for a few years and it was easy to live on the ocean side, around E ocean Blvd and Redondo ave. I think Long Beach could be a good choice, especially if you are just a couple.
As others have said, the interior of Long Beach is quite unsafe, so be careful in choosing a place.
Long Beach is a good place to live in terms of location because you can go to both LA and OC. Torrance is good for zip codes 90503 and 90505. Other than that, there are some gangs living there, so please be careful. Huntington Beach has a lot of weird Japanese people living in Huntington Beach too. There are people whose husbands are white and rabid Trump fans, people who say they will never vaccinate, and many others. Of course there are many decent people among them, but my impression is that there are many strange people.
If Long Beach is your place of work, I would also recommend Palos Verdes, rolling hills estates, which is on the side near 110.

why me ？ have I told you before about the Swimming Pool at my house ？ long story, as usual,

I have lived here since 1971 in this hot shitty Valley (San Fernando Valley) in 1971 and have lived here ever since. Since then - I've moved from apartment to 2BR, to 3BR, to 4BR, to 3BR, and back again in the Valley. And my current house and the house before that had a heated pool that I took care of for a total of over 20 years. However, both houses have gas heaters, so I don't know anything about electricity or anything related to it. In addition, the underground pipe from the gas meter to the heater in the current house is a galvanized iron pipe, and gas leaks from the rusty middle of the pipe, so we don't use the gas heater at all.

As for the gas usage in our previous house, the cost of gas was about $30 a month when we did not use the pool heater, but when we used the heater two or three times a month, the cost went up to about $150 a month. The cost of electricity is not so high as the cost of gas for the same amount of heat, and I think the cost of electricity is not ridiculous.

As for the poolman, we had a poolman for a few years after we moved into our current house, and at that time we were paying about $80 a month. Now it's probably $100 or more. Since I am retired, I have since cut off the poolman and gardener and now do everything myself. It's a great way to exercise my body in my old age.

If you know the specs of the electric pool heater, you can probably calculate the electric bill from the power consumption （ Watt Hour ） figures.
